Zach Parise scored two goals, the latter into an empty net, as the Islanders built a 4-0 lead and defeated the Seattle Kraken 5-2 before a sell-out crowd of 17,151 at Climate Pledge Arena.

Zdeno Chara played in his 1,651st NHL game, tying Chris Chelios for the most games played by an NHL defenseman.  

Brock Nelson, Kyle Palmieri and Casey Cizikas also scored for the Isles, who moved within one game of NHL-.500 (19-20-7).

The Skinny         
The Isles scored the first goal for only the second time in the last thirteen games; they have led 5-0 and 4-0 in the two games in that stretch that they have scored first …The Isles killed the only Seattle power plays; they have killed 18 of 21 over the last fourteen games and have been shorthanded twice or less in each of them …Brock Nelson scored for the third straight game; Nelson has 18 goals in 37 games played; he has not scored more than 26 goals in any NHL season ..Mathew Barzal's assist was his 286th point, tying Ed Westfall for 26th place in club history; he also tied Nick Leddy for 19th in assists with his 198th…Scott Mayfield matched a career high with season-best five shots on goal…Zach Parise scored twice for the first time since January 14, 2020; it was the 51st multi-goal game of his career.  He also added an assist for his first three-point game since January 28, 2020…Parise now has 399 career goals (only eight active players have scored 400; Corey Perry is also at 399) … Kyle Palmieri has scored four times in the last four games….Yanni Gourde, who scored the goal that eliminated the Islanders last summer, now has six goals in 11 regular season games against the Isles…The Isles are 2-0-1 in their last three games; it's the first time that they have earned points in three straight games since January 17-21 (3-0-0).

The next three games of this trip will be played in California beginning with Thursday's game in San Jose. It will be the Isles' first game in San Jose since November 23, 2019, when the Isles extended their point streak to a franchise-record 17 games with a 2-1 overtime loss on a Logan Couture goal.

The Sharks also beat the Isles 2-1 in overtime at UBS Arena back on December 2nd, in the first game the Isles played after their COVID outbreak postponed a pair of games.

Overall, the Isles are 4-1-2 in their last seven games with the Sharks.
