Lucas Raymond scored on a 5-on-3 midway through the second period to break a scoreless tie and the Islanders could never catch them. Ville Husso made 26 saves for his fifth career shutout as the Red Wings blanked the Isles 3-0 before a sellout crowd of 19,515 at Little Caesars Arena.
The Isles were outshot early in both the first and second periods but had 33 shot attempts (14 on goal) in the third period, but it was not enough as they saw their five-game winning streak end.
The Isles play their next four games in New York, beginning with a back-to-back set against Calgary on Monday and at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

The Skinny
The Isles did not earn their seventh win of the season last season until December 11th (7-11-5)...Mathew Barzal has seven assists in the last seven games (0-7-7) … Brock Nelson saw his four-game goal scoring streak end as did Anders Lee's four-game point streak…The Isles have outscored their opponents 20-11 in the third period; five of those twenty goals have been empty-netters…The Isles were shutout for the first time since February 2nd vs. Seattle and were shutout for the first time on the road since November 11, 2021 in New Jersey…Lou Lamoriello served as an NHL General Manager for the 3000th game (including playoffs)…Ben Chiarot played in his 500th NHL game…The Red Wings improved to 5-1-1 at home, including two shutouts…This was the Isles' first matinee of the season; they will not play another until February 11th in Montreal.

On the Farm

The last home win over Calgary was on November 28, 2016, at Barclays Center; Thomas Hickey scored in overtime for a 2-1 win The teams have met three times in New York since then with Calgary earning a win at Barclays, the Coliseum, and UBS Arena.
