Isles 4, Calgary 3 (OT)
Noah Dobson scored on a 4-on-3 with 58 seconds remaining in overtime as the Islanders rallied from a 3-1 third period deficit for a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames before 15,722 at UBS Arena.
Mikael Backlund scored twice for Calgary and that looked like it might be enough, until goals by Anders Lee and Kyle Palmieri :59 apart turned the game around.
Ilya Sorokin made a season-high 43 saves to keep the Islanders in the game, and eventually win his fifth straight decision.
The Isles play the back end of this back-to-back set on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.

The Skinny
The Isles did not earn their eighth win of the season last season until December 16th (8-12-5)...Mathew Barzal has ten assists in the last eight games (0-10-10); Barzal played a club-leading and season-high 24:01 … The Isles have outscored their opponents 22-11 in the third period with five of those 22 goals being empty netters; they have outscored the opposition 8-1 in the last three home third periods and 14-6 on the season at home…Sebastian Aho scored for the first time since April 19, 2022, vs. Florida; it was his fifth career goal…The Isles are 6-0-0 against the West, extending their best start ever against the West. It also matches their longest-ever win streak against the West, set in October/November 2015…Kyle Palmieri scored his fourth goal of the season last season on February 20th…The Isles are now tied with Buffalo for the NHL lead both in third period goals (22) overall and third period goals at home (14) …Ilya Sorokin has won five straight decisions; however since he replaced Semyon Varlamov for part of the game in Detroit this streak is not recognized by the NHL.
Overtime is Our Time
The Isles earned a win in their first overtime game of the season. Each of the last four Islander overtime goals (regular season) has been scored by a defenseman:

Dobson is the first Islander defenseman to score the winning goal in consecutive Islander overtime wins since Roman Hamrlik (2/22/01 vs Philadelphia and 3/20/01 at St. Louis).

Cal Clutterbuck left the game late in the first period and did not return.
20 Face-Off Wins
Jean-Gabriel Pageau had an historical night in the face-off circle, winning 20 of 25. He is the first Islander to win twenty face-offs since John Tavares won 21 on January 13, 2017, in Florida and the first to do so at home since Tavares did it against the Rangers on February 24, 2012. Pageau is the first player in Islander history (face-off stats became official in 1997) to win at least 80% of his face-offs while taking at least 25 of them.
Let's Make Some History
For the second straight home game the Isles trailed by two goals going to the third period and won the game. It is the first time in club history that has happened.
Barzy's World
Mathew Barzal leads the Isles in assists (14). Barzal, who had three assists tonight, is now tied 3rd in assists, behind Leon Draisaitl (17) and Nathan MacKinnon (16). Draisaitl is the only player in the NHL with more assists at home (12) than Barzal (9) while MacKinnon is the only player with more at even-strength (13 to Barzal's 10).
No Islander has had more than fourteen assists in thirteen games since the 1984-85 season when both Brent Sutter and Mike Bossy did so.

Bridgeport split a pair of games over the weekend to run their record to 7-2-1-0. Bridgeport beat Hartford 5-3 on Saturday but dropped a 1-0 decision to Providence on Sunday.
Bridgeport heads to Hershey this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday.
