"The Skinny"

By Eric Hornick

Game 68
Washington 5, Isles 1
TJ Oshie scored his sixth goal in the last eight games to break a 1-1 tie late in the first period and for the first time in over a month the third period belonged to the opposition as Washington scored three more times to defeat the Isles 5-1 before a sellout crowd of 17,255 at UBS Arena.   Pierre Engvall was credited with the game's first goal, and his first as an Islander, when he scored off a Capital on a delayed penalty.

The Isles fall to 34-26-8 as they head to California to face Los Angeles on Tuesday, Anaheim on Wednesday, and San Jose on Saturday; they will have 11 games left after this trip – all against Eastern Conference foes. The Isles are now the second Wild Card; they are even in points with Pittsburgh but the Penguins have played three fewer games.  The Isles are now three points ahead of Florida, who has one game in hand.
