Damon Severson's shot deflected in off Ryan Pulock's skate 5:43 into the third period and that was the only goal to beat either netminder, as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Isles 2-0 before a crowd of 14,015 at Nationwide Arena.
Justin Danforth hit the empty-net with 2:03 to play to hand the Isles their third straight regulation loss and fourth in the last five games (1-4-0). Elvis Merzlikins made 26 saves for his 11th career shutout.
The Isles are 3-5-2 on the season and head to Buffalo on Friday; it is the middle game of a three-game road trip that begins a stretch where they will play 9 of 11 off Long Island.
