The Skinny: Los Angeles 3, Isles 1

"The Skinny"

By Eric Hornick

Game 30
Los Angeles 3, Isles 1
Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala scored to give Los Angeles a 2-0 lead and the Isles could never catch them, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Kings before a crowd of 15,402 at UBS Arena.

Anders Lee scored midway through the second period to get the Isles within one, and in doing so passed John Tavares for 8th place on the Isles' goal-scoring list, but the score stayed the same until the final seconds when Mikey Anderson scored Los Angeles' NHL-leading 13th empty net goal to cement the Kings' 6th straight win.

The Isles fall back below NHL-.500 with a record of 11-12-7 on the season as they failed to extend their winning streak to three games; the loss keep them tied with the Rangers in points, with both team now outside of the top eight in the East.  The Isles host Chicago on Thursday in the front end of a home-and-home series.

Kyle Palmieri earned his 500th and 501st career points. The last 146 of these points have come with the Isles.

First Time in a Ridiculously Long Time
The Isles won a game that they had thirteen or fewer shots on goal for the first time since October 31, 2000, vs. Boston. It is only the 4th time in club history that has happened, with two of the four happening in Ottawa:

[MSGSN (Pre-Game at 4:30pm), WRHU 88.7 FM, WRCN 103.9FM, Isles + UBS Arena App]
It is an early start-time as the Islanders meet the Carolina Hurricanes for the first time since Carolina eliminated the Isles in the 2024 playoffs.

The Isles have never won a regular season home game from Carolina at UBS Arena, going 0-4-1; in fact, the Isles are winless in seven straight home games vs the Canes (0-5-2) in a streak that began in the last home game the Isles played before COVID interrupted the 2019-20 season. The Isles are 2-3 in five home playoff games at UBS against Carolina.

The road team won all four regular season meetings last season, with each team winning once in regulation, and once in overtime.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5th –SEATTLE AT ISLES 7:30pm
[ESPN+/Hulu, WRHU 88.7 FM, WRCN 103.9FM, Isles + UBS Arena App]
The Isles look to earn a split in the season series as they host the Kraken.

The Isles grabbed a 2-1 lead in Seattle on Brock Nelson goal, but Jared McCann answered just 37 seconds later, setting the stage for a Jamie Oleksiak goal that the Isles disputed for goalie interference.

The Isles are 1-1-1 at home, and 2-3-2 all-time, against the Kraken. The Isles are winless in their last three games against the Kraken (0-1-2).

Bob Wischusen, Ray Ferraro, and Emily Kaplan will have the national call for ESPN+.
